I'm hoping for some advice. We want to get married in Canada next year due to it being legal here and all you need is a visa.. British citizens do not require a visa to enter Canada , passport is all that is needed.
The eTA is strictly an authorization to board a plane headed to Canada, and nothing more. There are some Online Travel Agencies out there, which come up in a Google search, which are ripping off travellers by charging inflated service fees for applying on your behalf. As well, allow several months to apply.
The eTA might be approved immediately, or it might be "72 hours" as they may look more deeply into the application. It is this "72 hours" that seems to be causing a long wait for applicants.
The eTA is good for 5 years or until your passport expires. The eTA system is quite new. The delays for some travellers seem to be part of working out the bugs and there seems to be a light at the end of the tunnel now. She may be questioned about intentions once married - if she plans to immigrate to Canada. That's a whole other matter though. You'll want to review what the requirements are for the marriage license. I believe it involves both birth certificates and some other things, but it's been a while.
