My mom is concerned about my safety down there, and I really do not know what to say to reassure her as I really do not know that much about the place. I would be doing a homestay, presumably in a reasonable neighborhood in BA, and although I am not too worried about my safety I am not naive enough to think that there are not some dangerous people down there.
So can someone give me an idea of the threat of being mugged, or beaten up or whatever danger there is present in BA? Luckily I was only driving in the park, but I would not recommend walking around in there after dusk. That's not something I have experienced previously in Palermo. I have walked around hookers in the downtown and Recoleta areas many times, but not further out in Palermo. I will stay out of the parks after dark. Thanks for the update.
I find it interesting that there is an increase in this activity when the economy improves. I would have thought that after the crash more women would have been driven to this out of economic need.
So the supply would be greater. But it is clearly the demand side that drives this. More Argentine men have more disposable income so it goes. Of course the increase in tourism is a factor too.
On Florida and Corrientes it is a bit annoying but nothing too bad yet. Male tourists should know they will be singled out frequently and as was suggested just ignore it. I haven't really noticed an increase in the number of "touts" passing out business cards to the local clubs.
